Day of Service

"Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?" This quote made famous by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is as compelling now as it was 40 years ago. It encourages us to reflect on how important it is to participate in our community, both locally and globally.

In the wake of the earthquakes in Haiti, Americans are donating in record numbers. It has been reported that more than $24 million dollars have been donated via text - in increments of $10. I am amazed by this! It is so easy.

Text “Haiti” to 90999 and a $10 charge will be added to your phone bill. www.redcross.org

Text “SAVE” to 20222 and a $10 charge will be added to your phone bill. www.savethechildren.org

The ideas of unity, purpose, and the great things that can happen when we work together toward a common goal – are just some of the many reasons we honor Dr. King through service on this special holiday. http://www.mlkday.gov/about/why/index.asp
